Air tightness
Instruments for measuring the air density of buildings
Good airtightness of buildings is important in order to meet the BENG requirements (Nearly Energy Neutral Building) and the EPC (Energy Performance Certificate). Better airtightness increases building quality, comfort and reduces energy consumption. In order to measure the air density (or air permeability) of homes and buildings, we have the ATT (Air Tightness Tester) and the Ultragraphyx in our product range.
Efficient methods in addition to the blower door test.
A blower door test uses a large fan placed in a doorway. This allows airtightness to be measured and leakage through cracks and holes to be visualized with thermography and artificial smoke. The blower door method is the standard when it comes to airtightness and requires specialist knowledge. We offer two instruments with which, on the one hand, airtightness can be measured easily (the ATT) and, on the other hand, leaks can be visualized at an early stage during construction (UltraGraphyx).
Measuring air density with the ATT
The ATT uses the existing ventilation system in the house. It is therefore not necessary to install a large fan. The ATT measures the over- or underpressure in a house in relation to a compact pressure measuring vessel that serves as a reference. By switching the ventilation system on and off several times the air density is measured. The ATT can be used, for example, to quickly check large numbers of houses of one type after measuring some of them with both the blower door and the ATT.
Ultragraphyx: photographing cracks and crevices with sound
Already during construction (the building envelope does not have to be airtight) but also in existing buildings, cracks, holes and crevices can be visualized with the Ultragraphyx system by “photographing” sound, a bit like heat leaks are visualized with infrared cameras. With UltraGraphyx, leaks in the building structure are detected in detail.
